Urgent appointments

To request an urgent appointment for today or tomorrow (Monday to Friday) during opening times:

All requests to see a GP are managed by clinical telephone triage unless there is a requirement for alternative communication arrangements.

At the time of calling you will be asked by a patient co-ordinator to provide some information as to why you are calling, in order for the clinicians to prioritize calls. When the clinical calls you, they will determine a suitable course of action. This course of action may include offering you an appointment on the day or a future date. In accordance to practice guidelines, it may be appropriate for you to be signposted to another service, for example to access the local pharmacies for the common ailment scheme or call 999 for an ambulance.

When there is a very high level of demand, and when there are no more clinical triage slots available on the day, only acute medical emergencies can be safely managed. Unless it is an acute medical emergency, patients will be offered a future triage appointment on a specific day.

Should there be no appointments available we will place you on a waiting list to be contacted by the practice in due course (next available routine triage slot). If the GP deems your request as urgent you will be contacted in an appropriate timely manner. Patients are advised that they should be available to take the call on that day as well as attend face to face appointments if necessary.
